Your Role
The Senior Engineer designs, implements, and maintains systems and services that form the foundation of Alpaca.
The Ledger team builds a modern ledger that maintains a complete and correct view of activity in every account.
The ledger supports financial reporting, decision-making, compliance, and acts as a source of truth for many services.
Things You Get To Do
- Collaborate with finance, operations, and product stakeholders to deliver high-impact features and projects.
- Build backend systems and components with integrity, maintainability, scalability, and stability.
- Own high-visibility features and projects from design through deployment.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve the health of Alpaca's systems.
Must-Haves
- At least 5 years of experience working on systems at scale.
- Strong coding skills, preferably in Go.
- Experience with IDLs such as protobuf, RPC frameworks such as gRPC, cloud platforms such as GCP, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
- Strong problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to debug or prevent issues.
- Ability to create alignment with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort working independently or collaboratively on difficult problems.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in financial services or accounting.
- Experience with distributed systems or databases.
- Experience with event-driven systems and messaging brokers such as Redpanda.
- Experience working remotely or at a startup.
