Role Overview

Develop perception and sensor-fusion algorithms for fully autonomous, battery-electric rail vehicles.

Work across robotics software, sensors, machine learning, embedded platforms, firmware, and systems engineering.

Own perception or sensor-fusion improvements through validated production deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Build real-time software for lidar, camera, IMU, GPS, and other multimodal sensor data.
  • Implement and test sensor-fusion code across simulation and real-world deployments.
  • Perform intrinsic, extrinsic, and temporal sensor calibration.
  • Apply linear algebra, 3D geometry, filtering, and optimization to state estimation.
  • Design geometry-based computer-vision and robotics algorithms for real-time perception.
  • Evaluate sensor selection, system tradeoffs, and production validation plans.
  • Contribute to ruggedized sensor hardware, enclosures, and mounts.
  • Maintain real-time sensor and video streaming pipelines.
  • Integrate perception algorithms with ML, firmware, embedded, and systems teams.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience is considered.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience developing and deploying robotics or perception software in real-world systems.
  • Strong experience with geometry-based computer vision and robotics algorithms.
  • Proficiency in Rust and C/C++.
  • Experience with real-time, high-throughput multimodal sensor data and fusion across lidar, camera, IMU, and GPS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Real-time sensor-fusion implementation, testing, and validation experience.
  • Sensor calibration or strong mathematical and optimization experience.
  • Experience evaluating sensor tradeoffs and defining production validation plans.
  • Experience with localization, SLAM, online calibration, GStreamer, ROS2, autonomous vehicles, field robotics, or safety-critical systems.
  • Publications in robotics conferences or related journals are preferred.
  • Hardware experience with ruggedized robotic systems is preferred.

Compensation

  • The target hiring salary range is $163,000 to $212,000 USD.
  • Final compensation depends on skills, experience, qualifications, and location.

Workplace

  • The position is based in Los Angeles, California, United States.
  • The role validates autonomous systems in real-world field deployments.
