The London and South East Cost Management team delivers projects across commercial real estate, healthcare, education, public sector, heritage, residential, life sciences, and mixed-use development.
The Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior Cost Manager independently leads commissions, advises clients, directs project teams, and supports technical capability and business growth.
The role operates in a hybrid and flexible model across London, Tunbridge Wells, Epsom, Oxford, and Cambridge offices.
Your role
- Lead cost management commissions from feasibility through completion with accountability for scope, quality, programme, client satisfaction, and commercial performance.
- Provide client advice and prepare feasibility studies, estimates, cost plans, cash flows, benchmarking, option appraisals, and commercial reports.
- Develop procurement and contracting strategies, manage tenders, and lead post-contract valuations, forecasting, change control, risk management, and final accounts.
- Administer or support JCT, NEC, and other contracts while maintaining governance, reporting, controls, and audit trails.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage resources and commission finances, and maintain technical and service standards.
- Contribute to bids, account development, repeat business, cross-selling, coaching, mentoring, and technical review.
About you
- Strong UK property or built environment quantity surveying or cost management experience, preferably in consultancy.
- Proven ability to independently lead commissions and maintain client relationships from feasibility through close-out.
- Detailed knowledge of pre-contract and post-contract cost management, procurement, tendering, contract administration, change control, and final accounts.
- Strong working knowledge of JCT and NEC construction contracts and their practical application.
- Strong analytical, commercial, communication, influencing, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management capability.
- Experience supervising work, reviewing technical outputs, managing fees and resources, and supporting professional development.
- Degree qualified in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related discipline, with MRICS or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and CostX or a comparable measurement and cost management platform.

- Independently mobilise, plan, and lead commissions with ownership of outputs, deadlines, controls, and client outcomes.
- Provide technical authority, professional judgement, commercial accountability, and clear client communication.
- Lead people through delegation, constructive review, development opportunities, and high professional standards.
- Contribute to repeat work, bids, account growth, knowledge sharing, and progression toward larger commissions and Associate Director responsibilities.
