An organization in Qatar seeks an experienced Senior Project Accountant to support financial management of major infrastructure and utilities projects. Responsibilities
- Review and verify contractor invoices to ensure compliance with contract terms and payment procedures
- Prepare payment certificates and supporting documentation for approval and processing
- Process contractor payments accurately and within established service level agreements (SLAs)
- Maintain and update payment trackers, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records
- Evaluate interim payment claims, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and final accounts
- Monitor project costs and ensure proper cost allocation in accordance with organizational costing policies
- Review and maintain project costing models and cost classifications
- Monitor outstanding and unbilled contract amounts, coordinating with contractors and internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies
- Review fixed asset transactions, including asset capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and impairment, ensuring compliance with fixed asset policies
- Prepare and review periodic financial, costing, and fixed asset reports for management
- Communicate effectively with contractors and internal departments to resolve payment and financial issues
- Ensure compliance with corporate financial procedures, contractual obligations, and internal controls
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in project accounting, cost control, or financial management
- Experience within the utilities, infrastructure, engineering, or construction sector is essential
- Strong knowledge of contractor payment processes, interim payment evaluations, BOQs, and final account preparation
- Experience in project costing, financial reporting, and fixed asset accounting
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to financial governance and compliance
- Degree obtained from North America, Western Europe, or Australia is preferred
- Professional qualification such as RICS or another recognized accounting or finance certification is an advantage
