The Senior Process Controls Engineer coordinates and executes preventive and corrective process-controls maintenance.
The role supports plant reliability and availability while reducing maintenance-related costs across ASU, HYCO, CO2, utilities, and associated equipment.
The role may support joint-venture partners, equipment-sales customers, and new customers as required.
Nature and Scope
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role provides day-to-day technical support for process-control systems and low-voltage instrumentation and controls.
The role coordinates with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Instrument Technicians, and internal and external resources.
The facilities include ASU, HYCO, CO2 production, H2 mobility, utilities, and associated technologies.
Safety Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe work environment and provide visible leadership for safe-work processes and safety documentation.
- Support Management of Change, Operational or Process Hazard Reviews, SIL assessments, and other process-safety initiatives.
- Support implementation, auditing, and revalidation of Critical Safety Systems, Safety Instrumented Systems, and Safety Instrumented Functions.
Technical Responsibilities
- Lead execution planning for SAP PM activities covering instrumentation, analyzers, gas chromatography, DCS, local PLCs, and control loops.
- Maintain plans for calibration, spare parts, control logic, programming, graphics changes, system migration, and backup management.
- Perform SIL assessments and verification and support SIS and SIF lifecycle activities.
- Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including punch lists, document control, and quality assurance.
- Develop operating and control strategies, tracking programs, and metrics for productivity, efficiency, and controller performance.
- Define and test DCS interfaces with Advanced Controls resources.
- Support improvement projects, including instrumentation specifications, control-system configuration, cable and wiring design, and contractor work packages.
- Maintain specifications and sizing calculations for control valves, flowmeters, inline devices, transmitters, and analyzers.
- Provide technical support for installations, plant modifications, operations, continuous improvement, and maintenance activities.
Required Capabilities
- Technical capability across process-control systems, low-voltage instrumentation, DCS, PLCs, control loops, analyzers, and gas chromatography.
- Experience with SAP PM, preventive and corrective maintenance, SIL assessments, SIS, and SIF lifecycle activities.
- Ability to provide troubleshooting support, work instructions, technical guidance, planning, leadership, and hands-on technical execution.
- Ability to support construction, commissioning, engineering documentation, quality assurance, and compliance with safety and technical standards.
