Role Overview

The HYCO Lead Operator reports to the HYCO Shift Supervisor and is accountable for day-to-day DCS and field operation of the HYCO facility.

The role operates the hydrogen manufacturing unit, maintains production stability, and meets production, quality, environmental, and safety requirements.

The Lead Operator assumes shift lead responsibility when the Shift Supervisor is absent.

Safety, Health and Environment

  • Maintain a safe and stable operating environment and follow company and industry safe work processes.
  • Apply safe work permits, Lock-out Tag-out, and management of change procedures.
  • Respond to process emergencies, execute emergency procedures, initiate plant trips when necessary, and direct field operators.
  • Monitor Safety Instrumented Systems and Fire and Gas Systems, including safety interlock cause-and-effect charts.
  • Ensure emissions and waste streams comply with environmental permits.

Technical and Operations

  • Operate the steam methane reformer, CO2 removal and compression, PSA, membrane unit, and related utilities.
  • Operate pipelines supplying hydrogen, steam, and CO2 to customers safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor process variables through the DCS and manipulate control loops, setpoints, and cascades to maintain stable operation.
  • Report production progress and plant status, recommend solutions to shortfalls, and support production optimization.
  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Maintain customer and refinery-unit relationships while meeting supply, reliability, quality, and flexibility requirements.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate an integrated HYCO facility from a centralized DCS control room and in the field.
  • Ability to apply safe work permits, Lock-out Tag-out, management of change, and emergency operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of process variables, control loops, setpoints, cascades, and defined operating limits.
  • Ability to coordinate with maintenance and engineering teams on preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with environmental permits, safety requirements, production targets, and product quality specifications.
