Senior Manager, Engineering - SQL

Role overview

Engineering leadership and delivery

• Lead quarterly objective planning and execution in alignment with business priorities, team capacity, and delivery commitments.
• Own team roadmap delivery with high quality, predictability, and timely execution.
• Manage technical, delivery, and operational risks.
• Drive best practices in design, coding, testing, code reviews, and operational readiness.
• Provide technical leadership for SQL, Java backend services, microservices architecture, and data platform integrations.
• Champion Agile methodologies and continuous improvement.

People leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers while creating an inclusive, high-performing team culture.
• Conduct one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, career discussions, coaching, and feedback.
• Manage performance, compensation, promotions, and talent planning with Human Resources and leadership.
• Lead interviewing, hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and succession planning.
• Build accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning across the team.

Stakeholder management

• Communicate team progress, risks, dependencies, and achievements to leadership and stakeholders.
• Build partnerships across Product, Architecture, Data Science, and Engineering organizations.
• Align engineering priorities with organizational objectives and strategic initiatives.

Required qualifications

• 12+ years of software development experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong backend and data platform engineering experience.
• Excellent knowledge of SQL, database design, and object-oriented programming principles.
• Experience leading and managing software engineering teams.
• Experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
• Experience delivering cloud-based applications and services.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to lead teams through ambiguity and changing priorities.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with Snowflake or other cloud-based data warehouse platforms.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure or other public cloud environments.
• Familiarity with data science, analytics, or machine learning workflows.
• Experience with Python and automation or scripting technologies.
• Experience leading geographically distributed teams.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and monitoring platforms.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as Microsoft Copilot.
