Role overview

HMRC's Enterprise Cloud Services team is hiring experienced Senior DevOps Engineers to design, build, automate, and operate secure cloud services.

The role combines DevOps engineering, Site Reliability Engineering awareness, technical specialism, mentoring, and agile delivery.

Key responsibilities

Build, automate, and operate cloud platform services using Terraform and an automation-first approach.
Design and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines with testing, security scanning, compliance checks, and reusable templates.
Apply cloud security best practices, support audits, and meet compliance requirements.
Optimise performance, reliability, cost, and operational efficiency through monitoring and analysis.
Provide technical guidance, troubleshoot complex issues, support engineering teams, and share best practices.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture.

Essential criteria

Experience in one or more of enterprise-scale AWS or Azure platforms, CI/CD tooling, security and secrets tooling, container platforms, machine image pipelines, or DNS solutions.
Strong Infrastructure as Code experience, with Terraform preferred, plus scripting skills in Python, Go, or Bash.
Successful candidates must hold or be willing to hold Security Check clearance.
