Security Engineer I – Palo Alto Technologies

Role Overview

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementation, administration, and support of Palo Alto firewalls, web filtering, and SSL decryption.
• Support incident investigation, troubleshooting, issue resolution, and daily security operations.
• Work with senior engineers to maintain system stability, performance, and platform currency.
• Participate in firewall policy reviews and connectivity requests.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and cloud teams on network security requirements.
• Assist with upgrades, patching, maintenance, reporting, and security performance dashboards.
• Identify potential security risks and participate in remediation efforts.
• Contribute to technical projects, process improvement, and automation initiatives.
• Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge articles.
• Participate in an off-hours on-call rotation as required.

Required Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in information security, network engineering, systems administration, or a related technical discipline.
• Basic understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and firewalls.
• Familiarity with firewalls, web filtering, VPNs, or intrusion prevention systems.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to learn new technologies, adapt to changing priorities, collaborate across teams, and maintain a customer-focused mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to Palo Alto Networks products through coursework, internships, lab environments, or professional experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with AWS or GCP is preferred.
• Experience with PowerShell, Python, or other scripting and automation tools is preferred.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and industry best practices is preferred.
• Entry-level certifications such as Security+, Network+, PCCET, PCNSA, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or Google Associate Cloud Engineer are preferred.
