Role Overview
Lead and maintain a high-quality counselling service for the whole school.
Support the mental health and wellbeing of all pupils through counselling, consultation, and school-wide wellbeing activities.
Counselling Responsibilities
- Provide independent and confidential individual counselling using a range of therapeutic interventions.
- Support pupils with bereavement and loss, transition, eating disorders, depression, anger management, erratic behaviour, abuse, anxiety, and fears.
- Develop solution-focused interventions that build confidence, independence, reflection, and resilience.
- Explain the counselling service and confidentiality boundaries to pupils, staff, and parents.
Consultation and Wellbeing
- Lead consultations with staff, parents or carers, medical and mental health professionals, social workers, school nurses, and educational psychologists.
- Assist parents and teachers in understanding and responding to students’ developmental levels.
- Promote a caring and supportive environment where concerns can be explored.
- Monitor problem trends, identify causes, and recommend corrective action.
- Contribute to social education and emotional wellbeing through assemblies, pupil induction, group work, and classroom and play monitoring.
- Suggest curriculum changes to better meet students’ needs.
