Must be willing to learn to operate equipment used to perform the duties of the classification. Must be willing to work shifts or irregular hours. APPOINTMENT OF MUNICIPAL WORKERS TO CLASSIFIED SERVICE In accordance with Article 9 Probation Seniority and the Filling of Full-Time Vacancies and Promotions: Vacancies in the Sanitation Helper and Laborer classifications in the Public Services and Recreation Departments shall be filled by the appointment of Municipal Workers within the bargaining unit. If there are no qualified and interested Municipal Workers to fill the vacancy(s), the City and the Union shall meet and discuss filling the position through an alternative process. Must be a Municipal Worker in good standing at the City of Cincinnati in a position represented by the AFSCME 250 Bargaining Unit Agreement; must have a valid Driver's License. Working and Physical Conditions
Cuts and cares for grass and shrubbery. Removes debris. Cleans floors, wall, and equipment. Loads, unloads, and transfers materials. Excavates. Backfills. Cleans snow from walks, steps, and driveways. Sets up and assists in repair of athletic equipment. Marks athletic fields. Uses hand and power tools to break and remove paving material. Resets manhole castings. Salts and sands slippery streets. Collects garbage and sets full cans out to curb line. Helps install and repair water mains. Pumps gas; changes oil; mounts skid chains in cars, trucks, and motor equipment. Drives a light truck or ferries larger trucks between garages and yards. May keep simple written records.
