Position Accountabilities
Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of API’s health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, industry standards, and company requirements across NS, NB, and NL.
Conduct regular site visits, workplace inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events; determine root causes; and track corrective and preventive actions through completion.
Maintain accurate safety records, documentation, reports, and performance metrics, including trends, inspections, incidents, and safety initiatives.
Deliver and support safety orientations and training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, including required regulatory and API-specific training.
Provide coaching and guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees on safe work practices, hazard prevention, and timely corrective actions.
Support JOHSC activities, regulatory inspections, third-party audits, contractor management, return-to-work plans, and safety-related communications.
Promote a positive safety culture through proactive communication, employee engagement, awareness initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
Follow and promote all safety, biosecurity, and animal welfare protocols.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety.
- Certificate or diploma in occupational health and safety, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred.
- CRSP designation, or working toward certification, is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, investigation, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to influence, coach, and build positive working relationships with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and safety management systems.
- Experience in the agricultural industry and First Aid/CPR certification are considered assets.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout API operations in NS, NB, and NL.
