Role Purpose
The role supports management of credit approval processes for corporate and selected retail credit facility proposals.
The incumbent assesses credit exposure quality, policy adherence, and credit risk in accordance with Basel II and other relevant guidelines.
The position contributes to credit portfolio quality, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and risk management capability.
Credit Risk and Approvals
- Perform credit assessments and provide approvals within delegated authority.
- Evaluate facilities, guarantees, client background, industry and country factors, external ratings, financials, cash flows, and risk-tool ratings.
- Recommend approval, decline, additional security, or deal restructuring and set conditions to mitigate credit risk.
- Ensure credit approvals comply with policy guidelines and applicable regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder and Process Management
- Coordinate with Compliance on updates to credit risk regulations and provide information to auditors and Compliance when required.
- Coordinate with business units to obtain customer information and process credit requests within established turnaround times.
- Maintain service-level agreements with internal departments and support improvement of processing times.
- Build effective relationships with related departments and units to achieve group objectives.
Continuous Improvement and Team Leadership
- Improve the credit portfolio by applying credit risk best practices and addressing weaknesses identified through assessments, audits, or examinations.
- Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives and encourage innovative practices.
- Support risk management training, assess team performance, and identify development opportunities for staff.
- Coach staff and facilitate preparation for greater responsibilities.
Risk and Regulatory Framework
- Comply with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements covering AML/CTF, sanctions, data protection, fraud control, whistleblowing, conflicts of interest, and insider dealing.
- Apply the Three Lines of Defence principle and support RCSA, KRI, incident reporting, remediation, and conduct-risk requirements.
- Protect commercially sensitive customer and bank information through confidentiality and data-protection practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering, business administration, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
- At least 8 years of experience in a major bank, including at least 2 years in a banking risk function.
- Knowledge of Basel II, credit risk issues, and credit modelling methodologies.
- Excellent quantitative modelling, analytical, research, numerical, and written communication skills.
- Experience with large and complex datasets and knowledge of financial markets, products, banking operations, systems, and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of credit risk methodologies, interest-rate modelling, VaR, or other complex risk modelling is desirable.
Languages and Professional Skills
- Excellent oral, numerical, and written communication skills in English; Arabic is preferred.
- Ability to work with others and lead teams from diverse cultural backgrounds, with attention to detail.
