About the Role

Responsibilities
- Ensure welding process compliance with national/international standards, class rules, and legislations
- Provide technical feedback to project team on contract requirements related to welding
- Coordinate with third party inspection and issue work orders for inspections/testing
- Develop specific welding procedures, techniques, checklists, and sequences
- Calculate and plan welding consumables, machines, and procedures
- Monitor welding consumable issuance and usage at site
- Issue, maintain, and revalidate welders' qualification test records
- Monitor welding equipment validation and calibration
- Provide technical leadership to subordinates
- Monitor daily manpower allocation and subcontractor activities
- Prepare and submit daily work activity and progress reports
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement
Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Welding or Metallurgical/Mechanical Engineering
- AWS/CSWIP certification
- Minimum 5 years of experience as steel works welding lead in ship repair/ship building/offshore fabrication
- Knowledge of materials and various NDT/mechanical testing methods
- Good command of MS Office suite
- Knowledge of project management software is an added advantage
- Ability to read and follow job specifications and drawings
- Good knowledge of safety and quality standards

Job Summary and Purpose
- Ensure all welding and related activities meet requirements as per applicable codes/standards/rules.
- Update yard welding processes to meet customer requirements and best practices.
- Provide technical and technological solutions for production process and planning.
- Lead work teams and control production process to ensure high quality and auditable standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Take charge of welding process compliance with national and international standards, class rules and legislations.
- Provide technical feedback to project team on contract requirements related to welding.
- Coordination with third party inspection for the project and issue work orders for inspections and/or testing.
- Act as technical expertise in developing specific procedures, techniques, check lists, sequences or any other welding related requirements.
- In charge of updating and filing all relevant welding engineering documents by project.
- Calculate and plan welding consumables, machines and procedures required for projects.
- Monitor the welding consumable issuance and usage at site.
- Issue, maintain and revalidate welders' qualification test records for quality and audit purposes.
- Prepare and implement the plan for upgradation of welders.
- Monitor process of welding and welding related equipment validation and calibration.
- Provide technical leadership to subordinates to ensure efficient and procedurally compliant work.
- Monitor daily manpower allocation and subcontractor activities to ensure progress with safety and quality.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Degree/Diploma in Welding or Metallurgical/Mechanical Engineering.
- AWS/CSWIP certification and knowledge about International Codes, Class rules on welding & testing.
- Knowledge of materials and various Non destructive testing/Mechanical methods.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as steel works welding lead in Ship repair and ship building, offshore fabrication projects etc.
Technical Competencies
- Good technical knowledge and experience in structural welding jobs of ship repair/ship building, offshore fabrication etc.
- Good technical knowledge of welding processes, consumables, welding sequences etc.
- Good command on MS Office suite.
- Knowledge about Project management software’s will be an added advantage.
- Strong background with resolution of technical issues during projects planning and execution phases.
- Ability to read and follow job specifications and drawings.
- Good Knowledge about safety and quality standards.
- Knowledge of NDT/mechanical testing methods.
