The engineer will focus on human factors, human-machine interaction, user interface, and user experience design.
The work includes software design, development, integration, and maintenance in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
The role requires software engineering fundamentals, disciplined testing, and Java experience with distributed or communications-based applications.
Responsibilities
- Produce UI product and system requirement specifications from end-user input and operational analysis.
- Develop usability-focused product and system design concepts and implementation specifications.
- Create and modify prototypes, operational scenarios, and process maps.
- Contribute to architecture, detailed design, and software integration across distributed systems.
- Maintain software design artefacts and models and participate in technical reviews.
- Support software quality through unit testing, integration and acceptance testing, and code reviews.
Basic Qualifications
- Degree in Software Engineering.
- At least 10 years of software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Java development.
- Experience with Human Factors or Human Systems Integration analysis and task analysis.
- Experience with GIS frameworks such as LuciadLightspeed or NASA World Wind.
- Proficiency with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
- Understanding of UML, software modelling, modular design, high cohesion, low coupling, and object-oriented design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing communications systems or network-enabled applications.
- Familiarity with messaging protocols and distributed messaging architectures.
- Experience with real-time or near-real-time systems or GIS.
- Familiarity with defence, security, or safety-critical software environments.
- Experience with automated build or continuous integration pipelines.
- Experience supporting software integration and verification in larger system developments.
Language
- English proficiency is required for roles at EDGE unless otherwise stated in the posting.
