- National (remote with travel to site and offices as required)
- Hours: 37.5 per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
What will you be responsible for?
As a Principal Ecologist, you'll be working within the nature and biodiversity team, supporting services on a range of exciting projects across the UK in the road, rail, water and property sectors. You'll act as a focal point for technical advice, lead on the development of surveys, mitigation and licences, as well as promoting nature-based solutions and innovation across the business.
Your day to day will include:
Leading ecological surveys, developing management plans and designing mitigation strategies
Authoring and reviewing technical ecological documents and ensuring all licences and consents are obtained in a timely manner
Managing construction risks associated with ecology and ensuring mitigation measures are correctly implemented
Overseeing client, stakeholder and technical meetings, and inputting into bids and fee proposals
Steering and mentoring a team of ecologists whilst promoting environmental principles, best practice and innovation
What are we looking for?
This role of Principal Ecologist is great for you if:
You hold an ecology degree (or equivalent) and are a CIEEM Full member (or equivalent)
You have demonstrable experience as a technical lead on a range of projects with a robust understanding of UK nature conservation legislation and policy
You hold protected species licences and have experience with development licences, earned recognition or organisational licences
You have strong working knowledge of UK Habitat survey, habitat condition assessments, Defra Biodiversity Metric and Biodiversity Net Gain plans
You hold a full driving licence and are willing to travel for surveys and occasionally work unsociable hours
