Role Overview

The Principal Applied Scientist will lead research and development across computer vision, natural language processing, audio signal processing, and related AI areas.

The work includes creating and optimising AI algorithms and deep learning models for semantic understanding, multidimensional data interpretation, and human-machine interaction.

Applications span finance, oil and gas, environmental science, healthcare, and other practical domains.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyse, and optimise foundational and applied research for state-of-the-art AI algorithms and model capabilities.
  • Work with emerging trends, complex datasets, and models intended for real-world scenarios.
  • Develop multimodal solutions using text, audio, and visual data.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers to improve algorithm efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Integrate algorithms and models into broader product offerings.
  • Conduct proofs of concept for client needs.
  • Identify AI scenarios that could improve customer business efficiency.
  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to business development.

Required Qualifications

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in computer science, engineering, or an AI-related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience developing AI algorithms across modalities.
  • Track record of high-level research.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialization in computer vision, natural language processing, or speech and audio.
  • Peer-reviewed publications or a history of product-driven research and development.
  • Curious and inquisitive approach to problem-solving.
  • In-depth knowledge of recent AI and machine learning developments.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Success Measures

Success is evaluated through cost savings, use cases investigated, datasets mined, innovations and proofs of concept deployed, processes optimised, and customer NPS.
