Overview

PR Account Manager is responsible for supporting the delivery of public relations and earned media activity for assigned client accounts, with a strong focus on media relations, content development, and execution.

In addition to day-to-day account support, the role plays an active part in media landscape research, reputation monitoring, and emerging platform awareness, helping ensure clients remain relevant, credible, and well-positioned.

The Specialist is expected to take growing ownership of account delivery, contribute informed thinking, and manage assigned responsibilities with care, judgement, and commercial awareness.

The role requires working across multi-stakeholder environments and supporting communication aligned with broader strategic and reputational considerations.

Client & Account Ownership

  • Act as a day-to-day contact for assigned clients, managing routine communication and requests with professionalism and responsiveness.
  • Support account planning and delivery by tracking actions, deadlines, and approvals.
  • Attend client meetings, prepare notes, and follow through on agreed actions.
  • Support coordination across multiple stakeholder groups, including senior leadership, government entities, partners, and external collaborators.
  • Manage approvals and feedback loops across stakeholder environments.
  • Ensure alignment of communication with broader strategic objectives and institutional priorities.

Media Relations & Earned Media

  • Research, draft, and distribute press releases, media pitches, and news materials.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and content creators relevant to client sectors, locally, regionally and globally.
  • Support proactive media outreach and follow-ups to secure coverage and opportunities (both media and speaking opps).
  • Support media engagement for announcements, partnerships, initiatives, and sector-related developments.
  • Develop targeted media outreach across business, government, culture, lifestyle, and community-focused media segments.
  • Assist in securing opportunities that position clients as thought leaders within their sectors.

Media Landscape & Reputation Research

  • Monitor traditional, digital, and emerging media platforms to track coverage, sentiment, and reputational signals.
  • Conduct ongoing research into media trends, new outlets, journalists, formats, and thought leadership opportunities locally, regionally and globally.
  • Monitor policy, industry, and sector developments that may influence client narratives and communications priorities.
  • Flag potential risks, opportunities, and narrative shifts that may impact client reputation.

Content Development & Thought Leadership Support

  • Support the development of story angles, commentary topics, and thought leadership content aligned with client positioning.
  • Ensure content is accurate, well-written, and aligned with agreed messaging and reputational goals.
  • Assist in positioning clients as credible voices within their industries.
  • Support the drafting of leadership messaging, talking points, and briefing materials.

Campaign & Pr Execution

  • Develop and execute PR campaigns and initiatives, ensuring deliverables are completed on time and to standard.
  • Support in developing communication strategies for the client, including but not limited to PR strategies, strategic approaches, thought leadership strategies/plans.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure smooth delivery across PR activities.
  • Assist in proposal development and campaign planning where required.

Monitoring, Reporting & Insight Generation

  • Track media coverage and compile coverage reports, summaries, and basic analysis for clients.
  • Identify insights, learnings, and areas for improvement from coverage and media response.
  • Support reporting on activity effectiveness and contribution to client objectives.

Commercial Awareness & Budget Responsibility

  • Manage assigned tasks and activities within agreed scopes and budgets.
  • Support low-value commercial negotiations (e.g. content production, media-related costs, tactical activations) under guidance.
  • Flag potential scope creep, budget risks, or inefficiencies early to senior team members.

Professional Development & Accountability

  • Take ownership of assigned accounts and responsibilities, following through on commitments.
  • Stay informed on PR best practices, industry trends, and media developments.
