Pipe Fitter

The Fitter is responsible for fitting piping and/or structural components as per supplied drawings or field-verified dimensions while adhering to Acadian or customer welding procedure requirements.

This role demands efficient, productive work, clear communication with assigned helpers and welders, and a professional approach to work relationships.

The Fitter is ultimately accountable for the quality of their workmanship and productivity.

• Perform material take-offs on drawings to determine required cut lengths.
• Operate pipe/beam cutting machines or, when unavailable, use beveling machines to cut pipe to the necessary length. Coordinate with the Shop Foreman to assign personnel or issue a cut list if needed.
• Communicate effectively with helpers to ensure the appropriate materials and equipment are prepared for each project task.
• Bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts securely in position for welding.
• Verify that all materials (pipes, structural components, fittings) match the drawing specifications, including size, rating, grade, project number, and phase. Report any discrepancies to the Shop Foreman.
• Confirm all measurements, ensuring square and level components before releasing them to the welder.
• Record pre-weld dimensions on fitter drawings for accuracy and quality control.
• Transfer heat numbers to drawings and cut sheets upon completion and submit to the Shop Foreman.
• Ensure all fabricated items are tagged with the correct job number, customer name, and piece number for identification.
