Construction Fitter

The Fitter is responsible for fitting piping and/or structural components as per supplied drawings or field-verified dimensions while adhering to Acadian or customer welding procedure requirements.

This role demands efficient, productive work, clear communication with assigned helpers and welders, and a professional approach to work relationships.

The Fitter is ultimately accountable for the quality of their workmanship and productivity.

Perform material take-offs on drawings to determine required cut lengths.

Operate pipe/beam cutting machines or, when unavailable, use beveling machines to cut pipe to the necessary length.

Coordinate with the Shop Foreman to assign personnel or issue a cut list if needed.

Communicate effectively with helpers to ensure the appropriate materials and equipment are prepared for each project task.

Bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts securely in position for welding.

Verify that all materials (pipes, structural components, fittings) match the drawing specifications, including size, rating, grade, project number, and phase.

Report any discrepancies to the Shop Foreman.

Confirm all measurements, ensuring square and level components before releasing them to the welder.

Record pre-weld dimensions on fitter drawings for accuracy and quality control.

Transfer heat numbers to drawings and cut sheets upon completion and submit to the Shop Foreman.

Ensure all fabricated items are tagged with the correct job number, customer name, and piece number for identification.
