Role Purpose
Deliver safe, respectful and timely specimen collection in patients’ homes and approved locations.
Protect patient identity, specimen integrity, confidentiality and reliable handover to laboratory transport and receiving teams.
Support patient safety, experience and diagnostic quality through disciplined pre-analytical practice.
Patient Identification and Collection
- Verify patient identity, test request and collection requirements before every procedure.
- Perform authorized specimen collection using approved techniques and infection-prevention controls.
- Label specimens at the point of collection and confirm completeness before leaving the location.
- Deliver safe, correctly identified specimens and a professional patient experience.
Specimen Handling and Transport
- Prepare, package and hand over specimens in line with stability, temperature and transport requirements.
- Maintain chain of custody and accurate collection records in approved systems.
- Escalate delays, rejected samples, unsuccessful collections and patient incidents promptly.
- Protect specimen integrity and provide traceable handover to the laboratory.
