Role Overview
The role is a Pharmacy Technician in the healthcare industry.
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists with medication preparation and distribution, drug inventory, and patient records.
The work is performed under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and according to Ministry of Health regulations.
Pharmacy Operations
- Assist pharmacists in filling pharmacy requisitions, prescriptions, and cassette fillings.
- Maintain pharmacy and patient-related records.
- Order, receive, unpack, and store pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations.
- Prepackage tablets and capsules for inpatient and outpatient dispensing.
- Label prepackaged products and complete the appropriate records.
- Assist in the bulk manufacturing of special pharmaceutical products and operate manufacturing equipment.
- Follow worksheets to prepare pharmaceutical products.
- Assist in preparing intravenous solutions, reconstituting bulk additives, and preparing selected admixtures.
Inventory and Quality
- Maintain proper drug inventory and monitor expiration dates.
- Refill the crash box and maintain necessary records.
- Develop and coordinate the Quality Improvement Program within the assigned area.
Patient Support
- Participate in patient and family education to help them understand and participate in care decisions.
- Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned by the Pharmacy Supervisor or Pharmacy Manager.
Essential Requirements
- Knowledge of computers, pharmacy calculations, pharmacy and medical terminology, and drug classifications is required.
- A diploma in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy is required.
- An available professional registration certificate is required.
Desirable Qualifications
- Two years of hospital pharmacy experience is desirable.
- A bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy is desirable.
