Overview

  • Managerial role responsible for outpatient pharmacy operations.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and quality assurance.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Maintaining sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
  • Reporting shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience, maintaining records for ordering and replenishments.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Performs all managerial functions common to the department level.
  • Provides consultative services through participation in development of pharmacy services policies.
  • Assures adherence to approved ethical and professional practice.
  • Administers field wide control for standard procedures related to storing, handling, recording, dispensing and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
  • Responsible for procurement, stock maintenance and ledger maintenance of narcotic, controlled & psychotropic drugs.
  • Directs the design and preparation of drug formulary.
  • Inventory control and stock maintenance.
  • Serves as Co chairman to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Acts on MOH circulars regarding medication withdrawal or adverse effects.
  • Assures employee training in fire safety, infection control, etc.
  • Keeps informed of current developments and provides staff education.
  • Collaborates with other departments for total patient care.

Quality and Safety

  • Promoting and maintaining quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures.
  • Complying with all safety and quality control programs and procedures.
  • Complying with applicable precautions for environmental safety, infection control.
  • Ensuring safety procedures and quality assurance tests are maintained.
  • Complying and supporting clinical audit processes.
  • Communicating professionally with patients, family and medical personnel.

Continuous Education

  • Participating in education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses.
  • Participating in department programs/committees, hospital committees, and staff meetings.
  • Participating in orientation and training of new employees.
  • Maintaining professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or online education.
  • Completing and maintaining all regulatory requirements including licensure and certification.

Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems

  • Comply with all OSH and infection control policies.
  • Notifying OSH hazards, incidents, near misses.
  • Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs.
  • Comply with reasonable OSH instructions and safe working procedures.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Not wilfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety.
  • Comply with Waste management procedures.
  • Participates in OSHMS audits and inspections.

Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI)

  • PCI is everyone’s responsibility. All staff are required to read and implement the NMC PCI Policy.
  • Strict hand hygiene, 5 moments of hand hygiene, bare below the elbows and environmental care expected.
