About the Department
Responsible for advising students in both an individual and group format regarding their educational needs, transfer and career goals; advising students on test interpretation; teaching students techniques for accessing information; and consulting with faculty and staff on student and academic issues.
Position Duties
- Advise students in the areas of academic options and requirements within the context of an academic setting. Facilitate group workshops and developmental programming which will enable students to choose appropriate educational, transfer and career goals. Assist students in accessing appropriate educational planning information and resources. Review competitive application processes with students for RCBC programs and transfer programs and advise based on student interest and aptitude. Conduct pre-enrollment group meetings for newly admitted students to facilitate choices of appropriate course and program selection. Consult with instructional and administrative staff on issues and concerns that impact student life and the learning environment. Participate in and contribute to in-service training activities, which may improve advising activities. Refer students to professional agencies or authorities when circumstances require such action (e.g., medical, psychological, disability, etc.). Refer students to appropriate offices and services within the College to address their needs. Perform other related duties as assigned. OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY: The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.
