As a Packaging Engineer II with Pacific Scientific EMC, you will embed with Shipping as the internal customer to improve shipping processes and procedures with a focus on safety, quality, productivity, efficiency, cost control, and regulatory compliance.
Additionally, you will be part of the Manufacturing Engineering department, assisting and being assisted by a team of fellow engineers with varied subject matter expertise, experience levels, and assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
Review, interpret, and understand the contract, SPI, and any other shipping-related customer flowdowns as the basis for compliance in all other Packaging Engineer responsibilities.
Evaluate and select appropriate packaging materials, such as foam, corrosion protection, and shock-absorbing systems, to meet specific needs.
Create detailed packaging specifications, instructions, drawings, checklists, packaging BOMs, and other relevant documentation. Create or modify processes and procedures around generation and usage of such documentation.
Drive resolution of discrepancies in contracts, specifications, and regulatory requirements by engaging with Shipping, Design, Quality, Procurement, Manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to ensure packaging compliance.
Document, maintain, modify, create, and validate any custom tooling, fixturing, and equipment used in packaging.
Conduct and coordinate various packaging qualification tests including POP tests. Create a system to track and ensure packaging is tested at required intervals.
Create robust standard work around own job duties and process controls for the aforementioned items.
Lead focused internal events using a structured continuous improvement system to identify, develop, and implement process improvements and efficiencies in packaging.
Assist in supporting the Purchasing team to ensure sufficient packaging materials.
Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions pertaining to packaging.
Represent Shipping in Sales Order Kick Offs.
Assist in training Shipping associates on packaging processes and requirements.
Perform other duties assigned, including Manufacturing Engineering functions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical discipline. Military or industry experience and training will be considered in lieu of degree.
3+ Years experience in a technical/manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) to perform daily job tasks.
Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office products
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively collaborate and drive change with cross-functional teams
Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Strong interpersonal skills
Experience implementing standard work
Ability to work independently and manage projects
Working knowledge of Solidworks or other CAD software

ASQ Certification a plus
