Work Schedule

1.0 FTE, 100%, day/evening/night shift position.

This position covers on call for 3 days a week with an additional 8 hours of office time required.

This position will work at the UW Health Tissue and Donation building located at 448 Science Dr. in Madison, WI.

UW Organ and Tissue Donation is recognized as one of the most successful organ procurement programs in the nation!

We are seeking a Donation Support Specialist to:

  • Join an exceptional Organ Procurement Organization. UW Organ and Tissue Donation continuously ranks as one of the top OPOs in the nation for overall organ utilization.
  • Effectively approach donor families and obtain and maintain consent to optimize the number of organ donors in the federally designated service area serving over 100 hospitals across the state.
  • Provide excellence in donor family care through the Donor Family Services (DFS) Program.
  • Contribute expertise in best practices in consent conversations and donor family care.
  • Participate in and coordinate education to internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in quality improvement and quality assurance and maintain regulatory standards.
  • Provide support to others in their times of crisis and maintain self-resilience.
  • Consistently support the team’s shared work to family follow-up, after action reviews, and correspondence.
  • Respectfully and competently communicate, coordinate and collaborate with colleagues and donor service area partners.
  • Make an impact and be REMARKABLE!
  • Bachelor's Degree with focus on communication, human behavior, and social experience, such as, Counseling, Social Work, Social Science, Chaplaincy, Psychology, Education or other relevant fields Required
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education

• Master's Degree Preferred Work Experience

  • 2 years of experience in family support experience such as counseling, social work, hospice, palliative care, or education Required
  • Experience with organ donation, transplantation or work within a health-care related field (organ procurement organization, transplant, critical care, hospice) Preferred
  • Experience with grief support Preferred Licenses & Certifications
  • Must possess a current, valid driver’s license issued by the individual’s state of residence. Upon Hire Required
  • Must be at least 21 years old or have a minimum of three (3) years of driving experience to operate a Personal Vehicle, Patient/Visitor Vehicle, or standard UW Health Fleet Vehicle. ​ Upon Hire Required
