Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dilated eye exams and measure visual acuity
- Conduct objective and subjective refraction, including cycloplegic refraction
- Detect and manage binocular vision disorders and strabismus
- Perform pre and post operative examinations in cooperation with surgeons
- Remove superficial foreign bodies and perform eyelash epilation
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists as needed
- Educate patients on preventive eye care and proper use of medications

Job Purpose / Objective
- Examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases and disorders of the visual system and eye.
- Prescribe medications, low vision rehabilitation, vision therapy, spectacle lenses, contact lenses, and perform specified surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Examine patients and perform comprehensive dilated eye exams.
- Measure visual acuity, visual fields, color vision, and contrast sensitivity.
- Perform objective and subjective refraction, including cycloplegic refraction.
- Detect binocular vision disorders, accommodative disorders, and strabismus.
- Detect neurological disorders affecting the visual pathway.
- Conduct pre and post operative examinations.
- Examine and diagnose ocular diseases using slit lamp and accessories.
- Conduct comprehensive eye exams independently and write medical reports.
- Use diagnostic drugs such as fluorescein, mydriatics, cycloplegics, and topical anesthetics.
- Measure intraocular pressure using Goldmann applanation tonometry.
- Remove superficial foreign bodies and perform eyelash epilation and punctal plug insertion.
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists as indicated.
Education/Professional Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Optometry.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in hospital or clinic patient areas.
