Role Summary
Support and maintain enterprise and data centre network infrastructure as a Network Engineer L1/L2.
Configure, implement, monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and optimise complex network environments.
Work with engineering, infrastructure, security, vendor, and business teams to keep network services secure, resilient, available, and performant.
Enterprise and Data Centre Networking
- Configure, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise and data centre network infrastructure.
- Support Cisco Nexus switches and Cisco ACI, including APIC, ANPs, tenants, endpoint groups, bridge domains, contracts, and endpoint connectivity.
- Perform configurations, upgrades, migrations, hardware installations, replacements, and decommissioning.
- Support physical and virtual connectivity with server, virtualisation, infrastructure, and data centre teams.
- Assist with capacity planning and infrastructure improvements.
Routing, Switching, and WAN
- Configure and troubleshoot enterprise routing and switching environments using BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and static routing.
- Troubleshoot VLANs, trunking, STP, EtherChannel, VRF, ARP, DHCP, DNS, and TCP/IP.
- Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot DMVPN and SD-WAN connectivity.
- Troubleshoot WAN routing, tunnels, latency, packet loss, and service-provider issues.
Virtualisation and Monitoring
- Support VMware NSX-T, virtual networking, overlay networks, physical-to-virtual connectivity, segmentation, and security policies.
- Monitor infrastructure and respond to alerts, incidents, and performance issues.
- Use Wireshark, packet captures, logs, routing information, interface statistics, and network telemetry to identify root causes.
- Escalate complex issues and participate in incident, problem, and change management processes.
Production Support and Documentation
- Support critical production and data centre environments, including maintenance, upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery, and high-priority incidents.
- Participate in on-call or after-hours support when required and minimise operational and customer impact.
- Maintain network diagrams, configurations, IP addressing information, change records, incident documentation, procedures, and audit records.
- Follow security, access control, compliance, and change management policies.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Networking, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of enterprise networking, data centre networking, or similar network engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco ACI, Cisco Nexus, APIC, ANP, DMVPN, SD-WAN, VMware NSX-T, Dell switches, and HP switches.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise routing and switching, TCP/IP, network protocols, and troubleshooting tools.
- Experience supporting critical production or data centre environments.
- Willingness to participate in maintenance windows, on-call support, or after-hours activities.
Technical Skills
- Cisco ACI, Cisco Nexus, Cisco APIC, ANP, VLAN, VXLAN, VRF, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, EtherChannel, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, DMVPN, and SD-WAN.
- VMware NSX-T, Dell switches, HP switches, network virtualisation, network security and segmentation, Wireshark, packet capture, data centre networking, and enterprise WAN/LAN.
Preferred Certifications and Experience
- Preferred certifications include Cisco CCNP Enterprise, Cisco CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure, Cisco ACI certifications, VMware Networking or NSX certifications, and other recognised networking certifications.
- Experience in banking, financial services, enterprise data centres, financial trading, large-scale corporate networks, or highly available infrastructure is advantageous.
