The Merchandising Strategy Manager will lead merchandising strategy, assortment planning, portfolio optimization, category performance, pricing insights, and commercial planning.
Merchandising Strategy
- Develop category, assortment, product, channel, seasonal, annual, and long-term merchandising strategies.
- Analyze customer behavior, market trends, competitors, sales, margins, inventory, pricing, and customer data.
- Determine product ranges, depth, breadth, category mix, and opportunities for growth, rationalization, or replacement.
- Support launches, product lifecycle decisions, portfolio simplification, and product rationalization.
Commercial Planning
- Monitor inventory availability, stockouts, overstock, slow-moving products, inventory concentration, and product distribution.
- Develop pricing recommendations using customer insights, market data, competitive benchmarks, and margin requirements.
- Evaluate promotions, promotional uplift, cannibalization, margin impact, and return on investment.
- Build financial models and business cases and support budgeting, sales planning, margin planning, and forecasting.
Channels and Customers
- Coordinate with E-commerce and Digital teams on online assortment, product visibility, search, and conversion.
- Develop strategies for physical, digital, wholesale, marketplace, and other channels.
- Use customer feedback, reviews, search behavior, purchasing patterns, and segmentation to identify assortment opportunities.
- Align product presentation and merchandising standards with brand and customer expectations.
Leadership and Improvement
- Lead cross-functional projects and establish plans, milestones, priorities, and decision frameworks.
- Present strategic recommendations and performance insights to senior leadership.
- Monitor implementation, track results, identify deviations, and develop corrective actions.
- Evaluate analytics, automation, AI, and other technologies that can improve merchandising decisions.
Candidate Profile
- Strong experience in merchandising, category management, commercial strategy, retail planning, product management, assortment planning, e-commerce, or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, project-management, stakeholder-management, communication, presentation, and strategic-thinking capabilities.
- Experience working with Buying, Product, Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance, Commercial, E-commerce, and Digital teams.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills; additional languages are advantageous.
- Familiarity with merchandising systems, ERP platforms, analytics tools, business-intelligence platforms, and e-commerce technologies is expected.
Performance Indicators
Key measures include sales growth, gross margin, inventory productivity, category performance, sell-through, stock availability, pricing effectiveness, customer conversion, retention, forecast accuracy, and return on merchandising investment.
