About POWERTECH

POWERTECH is a center of excellence for propulsion technologies specializing in turbojet, turbofan, and advanced propulsion systems for aerospace, defense, and autonomous platforms.

The Advanced Propulsion team develops low-TRL propulsion architectures and enabling actuation, sensing, and control systems for multimodal and adaptive propulsion.

Job Summary

The Mechatronics Engineer will support experimental propulsion architectures by designing actuation and control infrastructure for adaptive and multimodal engine operation.

The role develops electromechanical actuation systems, sensor networks, and embedded control interfaces connecting propulsion hardware with agile control strategies.

The position contributes to rapid prototyping and validation of low-TRL propulsion technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electromechanical actuation systems for propulsion subsystems such as variable geometry, valves, and flow-control mechanisms.
  • Evaluate and integrate motors, sensors, gear systems, and embedded electronics for high-performance, high-temperature, and aggressive environments.
  • Develop infrastructure linking actuators, sensors, and control systems within advanced engine architectures.
  • Support distributed sensing and real-time control interface integration.
  • Contribute to feedback control strategies and multi-domain models of mechanical, electrical, and control dynamics.
  • Build and test experimental systems and prototypes for advanced propulsion concepts.
  • Design instrumentation and data acquisition for subsystem validation.
  • Collaborate with propulsion, controls, and electronics engineers on architecture development and experimental validation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience developing electromechanical or robotic systems.
  • Experience integrating actuators, sensors, and embedded control hardware.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with propulsion systems or aerospace hardware is desirable.
  • Experience in rapid prototyping or experimental R&D environments is desirable.
  • An innovative mindset and out-of-the-box thinking are considered a plus.
