The City of St. John's is presently accepting applications for the Full Time Permanent position of Mechanical Systems Operator, reporting to the Manager - Infrastructure in Water & Wastewater Division, Public Works Department.
Under the direction of the Foreperson, Water and Wastewater Division, the following duties apply to various pumping stations, meter stations, emergency diesel power systems, valve chambers and other associated facilities. 1. Operate and maintain and repair various water and wastewater pumps, electric/pneumatic equipment, mechanical screens, pressure reducing valves, air compressors, vacuum pumps, fans, shafts, mechanical couplings, various mechanical drives, diesel engines, valves piping, mechanical seals, and hot water heating systems. 2. Perform preventative maintenance programs on plant equipment. 3. Perform basic gas welding, cutting, safe rigging, and housing operations. 4. Safely use and maintain shop tools and equipment. 5. Carry out inspections and keep records of operations. 6. Pick up water samples for analysis. 7. Use a computer or mobile device to document maintenance and monitoring tasks. 8. Perform Confined Space Entries in manholes and chambers for water and sewer equipment.
