The Human Resources Division is presently accepting applications for the Full Time Permanent position of Environmental Services Operator - Utility, with the Department of Public Works, Water & Wastewater Division.
• Repair and maintain sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water mains and associated infrastructure. • Repair and maintain sanitary, storm sewer and water service laterals. • Carry out riverbank remedial works, improvements and maintenance. • Provide written or verbal reports as required. • Interpret plans as required to carry out works. • Estimate job materials as required to carry out the works. • Locate and trace existing infrastructure as required. • Maintain and service Environmental Services Division equipment as required. • Clear or shovel snow from hydrants. Thaw hydrants and house services as required. • Assist with the lifting of large objects such as valves, valve boxes, manhole, and catch basin covers, valve keys, generators, pumps, pipes, etc. • Operate water valves. • Perform necessary labour work in performance of duties. • Use jackhammer when repairing or installing water and sewer infrastructure. • Perform driving duties as required. • Carry out safety procedures as required for the duties

Utility Crew provides 24 hour operational coverage. Shift work includes days, evenings, overnights, weekends and statutory holidays. A combination of 8 hour and 12 hour shifts may be required. During summer operations shift schedules may change often to accommodate vacation relief.
Applicants must be members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 569, or should be prepared to join the Union immediately upon appointment.
