Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Mechanical Engineer role based in Dubai.
The role develops HVAC and mechanical systems, selects components, prepares drawings and specifications, and supports project execution through commissioning.
The engineer coordinates with project managers, site teams, suppliers, consultants, and senior engineering staff.
Mechanical Design and Compliance
- Develop HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and firefighting system designs based on project requirements.
- Ensure designs comply with ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, ADDC, DEWA, ADM, DCD, and ESTIDAMA standards.
- Assist with energy-efficiency studies and ESCO project design support.
- Manage drafting teams assigned to projects.
Drawings and Submittals
- Prepare and modify shop drawings in coordination with the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.
- Prepare material submittals and align them with project specifications.
- Coordinate with MEP site teams to resolve design-related clarifications.
Calculations and Controls
- Perform cooling load, ventilation sizing, and smoke management calculations.
- Conduct pipe sizing for plumbing, LPG, drainage, and firefighting systems.
- Confirm firefighting pump and tank capacities according to DCD regulations.
- Assist with BMS control strategies and sequences of operation.
Coordination and Reporting
- Coordinate with electrical and ELV engineers to integrate control systems.
- Support MEP and construction managers with design-related issues and technical solutions.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation.
- Use AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Primavera.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- At least 5 years of mechanical design experience on MEP projects.
- At least 3 years of experience in a consultancy firm.
- UAE experience and knowledge of local authority approvals and standards are required.
Technical Knowledge
- Expertise in chilled water, DX, VRF, AHU, FAHU, and ventilation systems.
- Knowledge of plumbing, drainage, stormwater, ductwork, piping, air distribution, and pressure-drop calculations.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP, Elite, Pipe Flow Expert, and CFD tools.
- Knowledge of green building strategies and ESTIDAMA or LEED compliance.
- Ability to prepare technical specifications and Bills of Quantities.
