THE POSITION
Are you prepared to elevate complex systems through expert mechanical guidance? As a Mechanical Engineer Consultant with the Department of Corrections, you will take the lead on specialized mechanical engineering work that supports institutional infrastructure. This position gives you the chance to analyze designs, review project details, and recommend improvements based on expert judgment. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position provides advanced mechanical engineering guidance through design preparation, project review, and technical consultation for statewide correctional facilities. It requires professional engineering judgment to evaluate systems, recommend solutions, and ensure compliance with standards. As a Mechanical Engineer Consultant, you will perform the following duties: Design Development: Create detailed mechanical specifications, design data, and CAD drawings for construction projects Site Evaluation: Conduct field surveys, gather relevant information, and prepare reports with observations and cost recommendations Interdisciplinary Coordination: Work with internal staff, external professionals, and code officials during project planning and development Technical Review: Assess mechanical drawings, estimates, and design reports and approve or recommend revisions Construction Oversight: Inspect project sites to verify compliance with design standards and resolve mechanical concerns Problem Resolution: Develop solutions for operational, maintenance, or design issues using advanced engineering principles Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week after the initial 6-month training period. During the training period, you must report in person to 1920 Technology Parkway, Mechanicsburg. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mechanicsburg, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview. Travel is required. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Employees with the required certification or license may be eligible to receive a lump sum payment at the time of hire and each time the certification or license is renewed. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years as a Mechanical Engineer 2; or Four years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system. Special Requirements: You must be in p ossession of a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. You must be in possession of a valid driver's license. Other Requirements: Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Legal Requirement: You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements. This position is not subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding. You must be eligible for selection in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
