Mechanical Building Services Engineer Location: Croydon
We are seeking a Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our team in Croydon.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, and repairs across a range of mechanical building services systems.
The role requires a strong understanding of commercial building services, with a focus on maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant operations within a customer-facing environment.
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical building services plant and equipment in accordance with maintenance schedules and statutory requirements.
Undertake reactive maintenance and fault-finding activities on building services systems, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Maintain and repair mechanical systems including HVAC equipment, pumps, pipework, water services, heating systems, pressurisation units, expansion vessels, and associated plant.
Perform minor plumbing works, including repairs to sanitaryware, pipework, valves, and water systems.
Monitor plant performance and proactively identify areas for improvement, reliability enhancement, and energy efficiency.
Ensure all plant faults and defects are diagnosed and rectified promptly.
Support the operation and monitoring of Building Management Systems (BMS) where required.
Liaise with specialist subcontractors and supervise their activities on site to ensure compliance with site requirements and safe systems of work.
Administer contractor permits, work approvals, and safe isolation procedures where required.
Operate Permit to Work and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) systems in line with company and client procedures.
Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
Prepare and follow suitable Risk Assessments and Method Statements for all tasks undertaken.
Complete all relevant maintenance documentation and accurately update the Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system, ensuring PPM and reactive tasks are closed out promptly.
Provide material requirements, parts lists, and estimated timescales for remedial works.

Maintain plant rooms, workshops, and engineering areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and client representatives.
Ensure compliance with contractual KPIs and SLAs.
Promote a positive safety culture by producing near miss reports, undertaking dynamic risk assessments, and challenging unsafe behaviours where identified.
Wear company uniform and PPE at all times and maintain a professional image when representing BGIS.
Support the wider engineering team and undertake any other duties reasonably requested by site management.
Recognised mechanical or plumbing apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing, or Building Services.
Proven experience within commercial building services maintenance.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills across mechanical plant and equipment.
Good understanding of HVAC systems, heating systems, water services, pumps, and associated mechanical plant.
Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
Experience using CAFM systems such as Maximo, Concept, or similar.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Water Hygiene awareness or L8 experience.
BMS monitoring experience.
F-Gas qualification.
Experience within corporate offices, commercial properties, or critical environments.
First Aid, IPAF, or PASMA certification.
