Manager, Software Engineering (Infra Foundations)

Role Overview

What You’ll Do

• Define and drive a multi-quarter roadmap tied to business outcomes, reliability, and technical debt reduction.
• Lead and mentor infrastructure engineers and own hiring, performance, and career growth.
• Own AWS account provisioning, bootstrapping, core VPC networking, and human IAM access.
• Deliver Infrastructure-as-Code automation through GitHub, Spacelift, and related workflows.
• Steward AWS quota management, AMI patch management, and Ansible configuration management.
• Set SLAs, alerting thresholds, incident response practices, and automated provisioning validation.
• Partner with Security to enforce least-privilege IAM and access governance.
• Drive adoption through self-service tooling, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

What We Look For

• 7+ years of software or infrastructure engineering experience and 2+ years of engineering management experience.
• Experience leading teams in infrastructure, platform engineering, or adjacent domains.
• Strong cloud-native and infrastructure background covering AWS accounts, VPC networking, and IAM.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, Spacelift, or equivalent, and GitOps workflows.
• Experience operating reliable services with monitoring, on-call, incident response, and postmortems.
• Familiarity with least-privilege IAM models and Security partnership.
• Strong programming background in Python, Go, or Kotlin.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

Workplace

• This is a remote role open to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
• Affirm is remote-first, with limited office-based roles depending on job responsibilities.

Compensation

• Annual Canadian base pay range: CAD 181,000 to CAD 241,000.
• Total compensation may include equity, monthly spending stipends, and benefits.
