KBR is seeking a Lead Material Engineer for an offshore island project based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The role leads material engineering activities for ADNOC offshore projects across FEED, EPC, construction, commissioning, and operations.

The position initially includes relocation to the Spain office before returning to Abu Dhabi.

Technical leadership

  • Lead material engineering and metallurgy for offshore platforms, pipelines, subsea systems, and processing facilities.
  • Develop material selection philosophies, corrosion control strategies, and material specifications.
  • Provide guidance on metallic and non-metallic materials for offshore environments.
  • Ensure compliance with ADNOC standards, project specifications, API, ASME, ASTM, NACE, ISO, and international codes.

Corrosion management

  • Perform material selection studies based on process conditions, corrosion mechanisms, temperature, pressure, and environmental factors.
  • Develop Corrosion Management Programs and Corrosion Control Documents.
  • Review corrosion allowances and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Evaluate CRA materials, duplex stainless steels, carbon steel, nickel alloys, GRE/GRP, and specialty materials.
  • Support corrosion risk assessments and life-cycle integrity studies.

Engineering and procurement

  • Review material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, material specifications, pipeline and piping material classes, metallurgical reports, and corrosion studies.
  • Interface with process, mechanical, pipeline, piping, inspection, and integrity disciplines.
  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, and design review workshops.
  • Review vendor documentation and supplier proposals and support procurement clarifications.

Construction and quality

  • Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, testing, commissioning, and start-up.
  • Review welding procedures, PWHT requirements, NDE specifications, and material test reports.
  • Participate in material failure investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and project requirements.

Coordination

  • Lead a team of material and corrosion engineers.
  • Coordinate with ADNOC, EPC contractors, consultants, and third-party inspection agencies.
  • Monitor engineering progress, schedules, budgets, and project deliverables.
  • Provide periodic technical reports and engineering recommendations.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
  • Minimum 18–20 years of oil and gas industry experience, including 8–10 years in a lead material engineering role.
  • Extensive offshore project experience with ADNOC, major EPC contractors, or international operators.
  • Experience across FEED, detailed engineering, EPC, and offshore brownfield or greenfield projects.
  • Strong knowledge of sour service environments, corrosion mechanisms, and material degradation.
  • NACE, API, or equivalent professional certifications are advantageous.
