Role Overview

The Lead Material Engineer manages materials engineering activities across FEED, EPC, and detailed engineering phases.

The role covers materials selection, corrosion control, technical compliance, multidisciplinary coordination, and team leadership.

Materials Engineering

  • Develop material selection strategies for process facilities, pipelines, piping systems, static equipment, and offshore structures.
  • Prepare, review, and approve material selection reports, corrosion studies, material specifications, piping classes, and technical requisitions.
  • Assess materials and corrosion based on process conditions, operating environments, and project design life.
  • Provide expertise in corrosion control, coatings, cathodic protection interfaces, metallurgy, welding, and non-metallic materials.

Technical Compliance and Reviews

  • Ensure compliance with ADNOC standards, project specifications, and NACE, ASME, ASTM, API, and ISO codes and standards.
  • Review vendor documentation, technical bid evaluations, and material compliance documentation.
  • Support HAZOP, HAZID, constructability, value engineering, and design optimization studies.
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, piping, civil, inspection, and procurement disciplines.

Project Delivery

  • Participate in technical meetings with clients, vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve material-related issues.
  • Monitor engineering deliverables against schedules, quality standards, and HSE requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise specialists, senior engineers, and engineers to support project delivery.
  • Support preparation of Material Selection Diagrams, Corrosion Control Documents, and material specifications for offshore and onshore facilities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • At least 15 years of relevant oil and gas or petrochemical experience.
  • At least 5 years in a similar position on major projects managing engineering teams.
  • FEED and EPC phase experience is required.
  • ADNOC, offshore, PMC, and GCC experience are preferred.
  • Experience preparing Material Selection Diagrams, Corrosion Control Documents, and material specifications.

Required Technical Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of material selection, corrosion engineering, metallurgy, coatings, and international standards.
  • Knowledge of NACE, ASME, ASTM, API, and ISO requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural project environments.
