Quality Assurance Field Engineer

Play an integral role in ensuring that construction, fabrication, installation, and commissioning activities are executed in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements, industry standards, and customer expectations.

As a Quality Assurance Field Engineer , you will serve as a key field-based quality professional responsible for verifying compliance, supporting construction execution, and driving continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a field-based role located on an active industrial construction site.

The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working directly with construction, engineering, quality control, contractors, suppliers, and commissioning personnel to ensure quality requirements are understood, implemented, and maintained in the field.

This position plays a critical role in preventing quality issues, reducing rework, and ensuring facilities are constructed safely and in accordance with approved requirements.

This highly visible position sits at the intersection of engineering, construction, quality, and commissioning.

Your ability to identify issues early, support effective quality processes, and build strong working relationships across project teams directly impacts project performance, schedule certainty, customer satisfaction, and operational reliability.

Purpose of the role

The Quality Assurance Field Engineer is responsible for supporting the implementation and administration of project quality assurance programs throughout engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.

You will work closely with project teams to verify compliance with approved procedures, specifications, company standards, customer requirements, and applicable codes and regulations.

Acting as a field-based quality representative, you will evaluate construction activities, monitor contractor performance, support audits and inspections, review quality documentation, and help ensure quality requirements are consistently achieved.

Through proactive field engagement and technical expertise, you will promote a culture of quality excellence that supports safe and successful project execution.

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting implementation of project quality assurance programs and project-specific quality plans.
  • Serving as a field quality resource for construction, engineering, procurement, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Monitoring field activities to verify compliance with project specifications, procedures, standards, and approved documentation.
  • Supporting construction and fabrication quality surveillance activities across multiple disciplines.
  • Conducting field audits, quality assessments, and compliance reviews.
  • Verifying implementation of quality management systems and project quality requirements.
  • Reviewing inspection and test plans, quality procedures, turnover packages, and project documentation.
  • Supporting contractor quality management activities and monitoring contractor compliance with project requirements.
  • Participating in quality audits, readiness reviews, and project quality evaluations.
  • Identifying quality issues, non-conformances, and trends while supporting development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Coordinating with Quality Control Inspectors, Construction Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, and Commissioning personnel to resolve quality concerns.
  • Verifying that quality documentation is complete, current, and properly maintained.
  • Supporting turnover, mechanical completion, commissioning, and startup readiness activities.
  • Assisting with root cause investigations and lessons learned initiatives related to quality events.
  • Monitoring supplier and subcontractor performance and supporting quality improvement initiatives.
  • Providing technical guidance regarding quality requirements, standards, codes, and industry best practices.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enhance project quality performance and reduce rework.
  • Promoting a culture of quality, accountability, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction throughout the project team.

What you'll bring to the role

You bring a strong combination of construction experience, engineering knowledge, quality systems expertise, and field execution experience gained through supporting large industrial and EPC projects.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Quality Management, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Typically 5+ years of experience supporting quality assurance, quality control, construction, field engineering, commissioning, fabrication, or project execution activities.
  • Experience supporting EPC, EPCM, industrial, energy, power generation, chemicals, resources, manufacturing, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems, quality assurance principles, and construction quality requirements.
  • Experience supporting field quality activities in active industrial or construction environments.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards, codes, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Experience conducting audits, compliance assessments, and quality reviews.
  • Working knowledge of inspection and test plans, non-conformance reporting, corrective action management, and quality documentation systems.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, fabrication practices, and field execution processes.
  • Ability to identify quality risks and support implementation of effective mitigation strategies.
  • Experience supporting turnover, mechanical completion, commissioning, or startup activities is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines.
  • Proficiency with quality management systems, document control systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently in a field environment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, continuous improvement, and customer success.
