Job Purpose

Lead I&C engineering activities for onshore and offshore oil and gas developments across concept studies, FEED, and detailed engineering.

Serve as the discipline technical authority for safe, reliable, maintainable, cost-effective, and compliant I&C solutions.

The position is based at the KBR office in Abu Dhabi and includes rotational travel to ADNOC offshore sites.

Leadership and Delivery

  • Own I&C deliverables, technical integrity, discipline performance, execution strategies, work plans, forecasts, and schedules.
  • Lead and mentor engineers and designers and review, approve, and monitor discipline deliverables.
  • Interface with project management, clients, operations teams, vendors, OEMs, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Support proposals, technical bid evaluations, manpower estimates, cost forecasting, planning, reporting, and resource management.
  • Lead brownfield modifications, debottlenecking studies, facility upgrades, and control system migration initiatives.

Site and Project Activities

  • Conduct offshore and onshore site surveys, field verification, data collection, constructability assessments, and brownfield feasibility reviews.
  • Develop scopes for site surveys, shutdown campaigns, tie-ins, plant modifications, and control system enhancement projects.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, procurement, construction, and pre-commissioning activities.
  • Monitor progress, budgets, milestones, execution risks, and mitigation actions across project phases.

Technical Deliverables

  • Prepare, review, and approve instrument indexes, I/O lists, datasheets, specifications, requisitions, bid evaluations, cable schedules, and control philosophies.
  • Coordinate OEM control system adequacy assessments and review adequacy study reports.
  • Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Telecommunications, and other disciplines to integrate design solutions.
  • Ensure maintainability, operability, reliability, lifecycle performance, asset integrity, QA/QC, and document quality requirements.

Functional Safety and Standards

  • Lead functional safety lifecycle activities in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
  • Develop, review, and approve Safety Requirement Specifications and participate in SIL determination, verification, and validation studies.
  • Review Safety Instrumented Functions and support functional safety assessments, audits, and regulatory compliance reviews.
  • Ensure closure of HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, CHAZOP, cybersecurity, and other risk assessment recommendations.
  • Apply ADNOC requirements and international standards including IEC, ISA, API, IEEE, NFPA, NACE, ISO, and ATEX/IECEx.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 17 years of I&C engineering experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG, or Energy sectors.
  • At least 8 to 10 years in a Lead Engineer, Senior Lead Engineer, or equivalent leadership capacity.
  • Experience delivering offshore and onshore brownfield and greenfield projects.
  • Experience across FEED, detailed engineering, EPC, PMC, construction, and commissioning environments.
  • Experience with offshore production facilities, wellhead platforms, central processing facilities, and related infrastructure.
  • Experience with ADNOC projects, engineering practices, and technical standards.

Education and Technical Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation or Electronics and Communication Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong expertise in I&C systems, SIS, hazardous-area requirements, DCS, ESD, FGS, PLC, RTU, SCADA, telecommunications interfaces, and field instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with AVEVA Instrumentation, SPI, INSTRUCALC, and related I&C engineering tools.
  • Control system migration, modernization, and digital transformation experience is desirable.
  • Professional certifications in Instrumentation, Automation, or Functional Safety are advantageous.

Site Travel and Certifications

  • The selected candidate will travel to ADNOC offshore locations on a rotational basis for surveys, assessments, verification, and engineering data collection.
  • OPITO-approved T-BOSIET/BOSIET and H2S certifications valid for at least six months are preferred.
