About CEL

Community Empowerment Lab (CEL) is a globally recognised institution working to transform maternal and newborn health by uniting science with compassion. We are developing a research-to-scale pipeline to power India’s efforts towards single-digit neonatal mortality by 2030. This pipeline spans across epidemiological studies, deep-sensing formative research to understand drivers of behaviours and practices, development and evaluation of promising interventions, and co-designing solutions with stakeholders to take proven interventions to scale. This initiative is envisaged as a constantly learning and evolving system, with the Data Analytics & Decision Science Unit as its central nervous system, converting raw field data into clarity, foresight, and lifesaving action.

Your Role

  • We are looking for an exceptional leader to establish and anchor CEL’s Data Analytics & Decision Science Unit. This role is for someone who wants their analytical talent to change the life of every newborn and mother in India and the world.
  • You will:
  • Lead and nurture a small team of analysts and statisticians
  • Architect real-time health intelligence systems
  • Identify leading indicators of newborn and maternal risk, healthcare quality, etc. • Consolidate data from available sources to inform priorities and actions at the state and district levels
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams of scientists, stakeholders and policy makers to interpret data and shape action
  • Support real-time data needs of ongoing research and programs
  • Design and nurture a culture of truthfulness, curiosity, and learning

Who You Are

You may come from a public health background with a Master’s or PhD in Statistics, data science, statistics, economics, systems engineering, epidemiology, or Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field with significant applied statistical / data science experience - any field that has trained your mind to see patterns and craft solutions.

We are open to diverse profiles, but expect:

A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a leadership or direct people management role, with a clear track record of delivery

Strong grounding in statistics (regression, causal inference, sample size, risk modelling) and statistical tools such as R & Python

Experience analysing large, messy datasets

Experience leading teams

Ability to build simple, actionable decision tools

In tune with developments in AI

Excellent written and verbal communication

A genuine desire to work on maternal–newborn health

Bonus: Experience in health systems, RCTs, geospatial analysis, behavioural economics, systems dynamics and modelling.

Enjoy this role if you:

Thrive in complex systems and can see patterns others miss

Think outcome-first, always asking: “What will save lives next?”

Communicate insights with clarity, humility, and empathy

Comfortable with messy, real-world data

Believe in the power of science + compassion

Want your work to matter : truly, deeply

Can lead without ego and build people up

Feel energised by field engagement and working with teams on the ground

Why join CEL?

You will shape one of India’s most meaningful systems-change missions • You will influence maternal and newborn outcomes at scale

You will work with visionary leaders and compassionate teams

You will be part of a living, learning, evolving organism – not a bureaucratic structure

Location

  • Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (India). We may consider hybrid arrangements for the right candidate.
