On is hiring a Lead Backend Engineer to scale its online business within the Commercial Platform team.
The role designs, builds, deploys, tests, and operates digital services for millions of customers globally.
The position is based in the London office and collaborates with cross-functional Digital teams across key locations.
Mission and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the Commercial Platform through APIs, real-time events, and documentation.
- Iteratively deliver high-quality solutions that meet technical and internal consumer needs.
- Build, release, and operate complex systems with the team.
- Own and evolve scalable architecture by leading decision-making through RFCs.
- Apply continuous integration and deployment, code reviews, high test coverage, and observability.
- Collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders and drive alignment beyond the immediate team.
- Share knowledge, mentor teammates, provide feedback, and support hiring.
Experience and Technical Requirements
- 5-6 years of backend experience designing, building, testing, releasing, and operating scalable systems.
- Experience with the Node.js and TypeScript ecosystem and API design and development.
- Experience designing distributed systems and building event-driven systems such as those using Kafka.
- Mastery of automated testing, test-driven development, and performance debugging tools.
- Hands-on experience operating infrastructure on AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
- Comfort using containerized workloads and Kubernetes clusters.
- GraphQL and NestJS experience is a bonus.
- A product mindset and experience owning features from initial concept through delivery.
