Laundry In Charge

Responsibilities

• Manage the day to day laundry process including sorting, washing, drying, ironing, steaming, folding and organising clothing, household linen and soft furnishings to the household’s standards.
• Identify fabric types and apply appropriate cleaning methods, detergents and temperature settings to protect garments and extend their lifespan.
• Attend to delicate and specialist items (silk, cashmere, lace, embroidered pieces) using hand wash or specialist care as required.
• Perform stain removal, mending, minor repairs and liaise with professional dry cleaners or tailors for specialist services when necessary.
• Maintain records of laundry schedules, care instructions, and item inventories; ensure organised storage and rotation of linens and uniforms.
• Operate and maintain laundry machines, irons, steamers and other equipment; report faults and coordinate repairs with external technicians.
• Ensure machines are cleaned and descaled as per manufacturer guidance and follow safe operating procedures for all equipment.
• Manage supplies of detergents, softeners, stain removers and related consumables; inform the employer of required stock and assist with ordering when requested.
• Supervise and provide guidance to any laundry assistants or junior housekeeping staff to ensure consistent standards and efficient workflow.
• Coordinate with other household staff (housekeepers, chefs, butlers) to prioritise laundry requirements for events, guests and daily routines.
• Plan laundry schedules to meet household needs, including rush requirements for events or last minute requests.
