Role Overview

KBR is expanding its Project Management Consultancy team for an offshore development in Abu Dhabi.

The Lead Instrumentation and Control Engineer will lead instrumentation, control, safety systems, and automation engineering for ADNOC Offshore projects.

The role covers FEED, detailed engineering, EPC, commissioning, and start-up and supports offshore brownfield and greenfield projects.

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead the Instrumentation and Control discipline team for offshore projects.
  • Manage deliverables, resource planning, technical quality, and discipline leadership across project phases.
  • Coordinate with project management and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Instrumentation Engineering

  • Review and approve instrument indexes, datasheets, hook-up drawings, loop drawings, cable schedules, junction box schedules, installation details, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Select and specify pressure, temperature, flow, level, analyzer, control valve, and shutdown valve instrumentation.

Control and Automation

  • Lead design and implementation of DCS, ESD, F&G, PLC, SCADA, and ICSS solutions.
  • Ensure system architectures comply with ADNOC and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Lead HAZOP, SIL assessment, LOPA, alarm rationalization, and functional safety reviews under IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.

Offshore and Vendor Support

  • Lead offshore site surveys, brownfield modifications, tie-in evaluations, shutdown planning, and resolution of site engineering and operational interface issues.
  • Review vendor documentation for compressors, pumps, water injection packages, generators, metering systems, and chemical injection packages.
  • Participate in vendor meetings, FATs, SATs, and technical evaluations.

Construction and Compliance

  • Support construction, installation, commissioning, start-up, loop checks, cause-and-effect testing, and system integration testing.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with ADNOC Offshore standards, international codes, project specifications, HSE requirements, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the engineering team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
  • At least 15 years of Instrumentation and Control engineering experience in Oil & Gas projects.
  • At least 5 years as a Lead Instrumentation Engineer on major offshore projects.
  • Proven experience with offshore platforms, wellhead towers, process platforms, offshore utilities, brownfield modifications, and greenfield EPC projects.
  • Extensive ADNOC Offshore, Saudi Aramco, QatarEnergy, or other major Middle East offshore operator experience is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree is an advantage.
  • Chartered Engineer, PE, or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • TÜV Functional Safety Engineer certification is preferred.
  • Membership in ISA, IEEE, or an equivalent professional organization is preferred.

Engineering Software

  • SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/INtools), AVEVA Engineering, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, SIL Verification Software, and DCS/PLC Engineering Tools.
