Role overview

The Interior Designer & Sales role combines interior design, visual merchandising, customer service, client development, and showroom sales.

The role delivers design projects from concept to completion using the company’s furniture and accessories selection.

Interior design responsibilities

  • Define, design, and implement visual merchandising strategies based on the organization’s culture, products, image, and target market.
  • Plan projects, develop concepts and space plans, prepare presentations, select finishes, define scope, specify products and costs, and support execution.
  • Provide design and sales services with floor plans and complete presentation boards.
  • Maintain product knowledge for furniture, home furnishings, accessories, and construction features.
  • Guide and assist Junior Interior Designers during the design process.
  • Stay current on local and national interior design trends.

Visual merchandising responsibilities

  • Produce window displays, signs, interior displays, floor plans, and promotional displays.
  • Keep showrooms clean and arrange furniture, cushions, and other visual elements in an attractive presentation.
  • Change displays for new product launches and festive or seasonal themes.
  • Identify damaged furniture or accessories requiring maintenance.

Sales and showroom responsibilities

  • Assist customers in rotation, process orders, and provide superior customer service.
  • Build client relationships, sell products and services, and develop future business.
  • Achieve monthly sales and delivery goals and create and maintain a client base.
  • Attract new clients and projects, maintain contact through delivery, and follow up on orders.
  • Collect pending payments and ensure pending deliveries are completed.
  • Support showroom operations, training, meetings, reporting, inventory, catalog upkeep, tagging, wrapping, and greeting.

Skills

  • Computer-based floor planning and design software skills are required.
  • The role calls for curtain and wallpaper calculation, product expertise, furniture merchandising, and presentation skills.
  • Listed tools include AutoCAD, V-Ray, Photoshop, and 3D Max.
  • The role also calls for creativity, attention to detail, trend identification, sketching, mathematics, leadership, problem resolution, negotiation, and communication.

Requirements

  • Ability to create computer-based floor plans and work with design software and templates.
  • Ability to calculate curtains and wallpapers.
  • Knowledge of furniture, home furnishings, accessories, and construction features.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, V-Ray, Photoshop, 3D Max, or similar design tools.
  • Sales, presentation, negotiation, active listening, and customer-service skills.
  • Creative eye, attention to detail, trend identification, and sketching ability.
  • Ability to manage or guide people, including supporting Junior Interior Designers.
  • Mathematical, problem-resolution, communication, and computer skills.
