The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for the development of control systems using a broad range of sensing and control hardware supervised by a GNU/Linux platform. Instrumentation and controls will be integrated for several pieces of equipment including an electrolyzer, nitrogen generator, an ammonia reactor, ammonia liquefaction, an ammonia disassociator, a vaporizer, a post cracking purification system, and an electro-chemical hydrogen compressor. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills in computer programming, data acquisition, advanced process control (APC), distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) for large complex automated chemical systems consisting of mechanical, plumbing, manual and automated valving, electrical, process control and instrumentation elements in both start-up and large corporate environments.

This position is not eligible for work visa (H-1B).

Essential Job Duties

Develop functional requirement specifications.
Incorporate safety measures into all areas of system operation.
Program and maintain PLC & SCADA systems.
Collaborate on sensor, controls, and other hardware elements of the system.
Document system commissioning, operating, and shutdown procedures.
Contribute expertise and knowledge toward system modularization and process intensification.

BS Engineering degree (EE or CS).
5 to 10 years experience in instrumentation and control systems design, development, and implementation.
Experience in integration of automation systems (VFD, SCADA, PLC, Sensors, etc?).
Experience with programming languages such as Python, C, C++, and PLC languages.
Familiarity with Modbus and similar industrial communication protocols.
Familiarity with process control network standards and security practices.
Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
CAD Skills with willingness to adapt them to BricsCAD.
Office software skills (document, spreadsheet, and presentation).
Willingness to work in an Ubuntu GNU/Linux computing environment .

Additional beneficial skills/experience:

Knowledge of IEC 61508/61511, ISA-5.1, ISA-5.4, ISA-84, ISA-101.01, NFPA 70, NFPA 79, ISO 3511, ISO 15519, and other applicable standards.
Knowledge of Electrical Hazard Classification (EHC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) & Process Flow Diagrams (PFD).
Experience in a chemical processing environment.

Ability to self-direct and drive to aggressive milestones.
High attention to detail.
Solid interpersonal skills.
Desire to learn with high adaptability.
Experience with the Agile software method.
