Help deliver safer, stronger roads across Central Queensland. Bring your civil construction or road maintenance knowledge to a practical field-based role where your inspections, observations and advice will directly support the delivery of quality transport infrastructure.Transport and Main Roads is seeking Inspectors (Roadworks) to join the Delivery and Operations team in Mackay, Barcaldine or Rockhampton. Opportunities are available at the OO4 and OO5 classification levels, allowing applicants to be considered according to their experience, technical capability and readiness to work independently. These are flexible permanent full-time positions. The Central Queensland Region manages 9,076 kilometres of state-controlled roads and approximately 1,510 kilometres of the National Road Network. The team supports the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program across a geographically diverse region extending from coastal and rainforest areas to inland communities. About the opportunitiesAs an Inspector (Roadworks), you will monitor construction and maintenance activities to help ensure work meets contractual, legislative, quality, environmental and safety requirements. You may work across new construction, routine and programmed maintenance, rehabilitation and reactive maintenance, public utility and developer works and responses to critical incidents or declared disaster events. At the OO4 level, you will build your inspection capability with guidance and support. You will develop an understanding of contracts and construction methods, undertake surveillance inspections, maintain project records, identify road hazards and defects, and provide progress updates to the Superintendent or their representative. At the OO5 level, you will apply established knowledge and experience with greater independence. You will provide technical advice, assess contractor performance, independently conduct hazard and defect surveys, contribute to surveillance planning and support field activities involving public utility infrastructure. Your responsibilities may include:Inspecting contractor work, construction processes and temporary traffic management arrangementsMonitoring compliance with specifications, legislation and contract conditionsReviewing quality, environmental and safety controlsMaintaining clear records, including diaries, test results, photographs and reportsProviding timely advice and updates on project progress and contractor performanceIdentifying road infrastructure hazards and defects and advising on remediation prioritiesInvestigating operational complaints and requests from the publicInspecting third-party activities within the road corridorSupporting disaster preparedness and post-flood road or structure reopening activitiesParticipating in contractual meetings, training and development activities.What we are looking forYou will bring knowledge of construction or maintenance practices relevant to transport infrastructure projects. You will make considered decisions, build productive working relationships, contribute positively within a team and approach practical problems in a constructive way. A current Class C driver licence is mandatory. A Certificate III in Civil Construction is desirable, with the OO4 role allowing the qualification to be rapidly acquired.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
