Responsibilities
- Lead DoE's HSE services encompassing all Health, Safety, and Environmental concerns
- Develop and implement regulations, codes, and standards for HSE control in the Department of Energy
- Ensure compliance with HSE regulations through routine assessments, data monitoring, and investigation
- Monitor the DoE's Environment, Health, and Safety Management System (EHSMS) implementation
- Contribute to the development of technical environmental regulations for licensed entities
- Support the licensing process and contribute to licensing process improvement
- Collect data from licensed entities to ensure structured reporting of operational environment incidents
- Manage investigations into operational environmental incidents
- Conduct annual site visits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
- Prepare reports on site visits, non compliance areas, and actions to be taken
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Environmental Sciences, Natural Science, HSE Management, Engineering)
- IOSH qualification, Master’s Degree in Health and Safety or comparable qualification (e.g., NEBOSH) required
- 5 years’ experience in a relevant field

Role Overview
- The HSE Engineer (Corporate & Sector Environment) is accountable for leading DoE's HSE services, which encompasses all Health, Safety, and Environmental concerns.
- Additionally, the HSE Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing the necessary regulations, codes, and standards to ensure the effective control of HSE in the Department of Energy.
- The HSE Engineer is responsible for monitoring the DoE's Environment, Health, and Safety Management System (EHSMS) implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of technical, environmental regulations, codes of conduct, and standards that apply to all licensed entities operating in the energy sector.
- Ensure that ADPHC mandated OSH regulations and other relevant environment authorities are embedded in the various directorates/sections within the DoE.
- Support the licensing process and contribute to licensing process improvement.
- Contribute to the development of a DoE HSE framework and enforce the implementation of the EHSMS.
- Collect data from licensed entities to ensure they have a structured reporting system for operational environment incidents.
- Manage investigations into operational environmental incidents as needed.
- Work with the Licensing and Compliance Section to monitor environment compliance data.
- Conduct an annual site visit to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment process for site visits.
- Prepare reports on the site visit, non compliance areas, and actions to be taken.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as: Environmental Sciences; Natural Science; Health, Safety and Environmental Management; Engineering.
- Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) qualification, Master’s Degree in Health and Safety or comparable qualification (e.g., NEBOSH) required.
