Role overview

Support planning, implementation, and monitoring of HSE programs for track installation and systems works on the SkyTrain project.

Ensure compliance with regulatory, contractual, and project-specific safety requirements while promoting a strong safety culture across site activities.

Core responsibilities

  • Conduct job hazard analyses, risk assessments, task-specific hazard reviews, site inspections, and project-level audits.
  • Identify hazards related to rail work, heavy equipment, confined spaces, working at heights, and energized systems.
  • Verify lockout/tagout, permit systems, and other hazard controls.
  • Audit subcontractors and suppliers, track corrective actions, and support regulator interactions.
  • Lead or participate in incident and near-miss investigations and implement preventive measures.
  • Deliver orientations, toolbox talks, safety briefings, and specialized training sessions.
  • Verify worker training, certifications, and competency requirements.
  • Coordinate emergency response drills and first aid activities.
  • Monitor environmental compliance for dust, noise, vibration, and spill prevention.
  • Oversee safety during systems and electrical installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Maintain safety records and support claims management and return-to-work coordination.

Required qualifications

  • High School Diploma is mandatory.
  • Construction Safety Officer Certification is required.
  • Four to six years of relevant safety experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of British Columbia Occupational Health and Safety Regulations is required.
  • Working knowledge of heavy equipment and construction processes is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is mandatory.
  • CRSP designation and current First Aid/CPR certifications are preferred.

Skills and competencies

  • Knowledge of rail safety standards, electrical systems, and signaling protocols.
  • Knowledge of WorkSafeBC, Transport Canada, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Ability to identify hazards and implement effective control measures.
  • Ability to influence safety culture and lead investigations.
  • Analytical skills for resolving safety issues and recommending preventive actions.
  • Strong documentation and reporting capabilities for audits and inspections.

Compensation

  • Expected compensation in British Columbia is $80,700 to $111,000 annually.
