- Prepares and operates hemodialysis machines and related equipment prior to patient treatment
- Assesses patients before dialysis, including vital signs, weight, and general condition
- Initiates and monitors hemodialysis treatment according to physician orders and established protocols
- Performs vascular access care (AV fistula, graft, or catheter) and ensures proper needle insertion technique
- Monitors patients during dialysis for complications such as hypotension, cramps, or adverse reactions
- Adjusts dialysis parameters as needed under supervision and within scope of practice
- Ensures proper administration of anticoagulants and other prescribed medications during treatment
- Maintains strict infection control and aseptic techniques to prevent cross contamination
- Documents treatment details, patient response, and machine settings accurately in medical records
- Educates patients on dialysis procedures, vascular access care, diet, and fluid restrictions
- Cleans, disinfects, and maintains dialysis machines and equipment after each session
- Coordinates with nephrologists and healthcare team regarding patient progress and concerns
Requirements
- Proven experience as a hemodialysis nurse
- Knowledge of hemodialysis machines and procedures
- Ability to assess patients before dialysis
- Skill in vascular access care and needle insertion
- Knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques
- Ability to respond to emergencies during dialysis
- Valid nursing license
